I don’t really have favourites but I am so amazed by the symbiosis of the corals with algae that live inside their cells. I often imagine we could do that. Instead of having to farm the land and sea, destroying habitats and polluting the ground, we could just grow our food inside our bodies. If you feel peckish you just go outside and sunbath until the plants put sugar into your blood stream. We could all have very useful and very green tattoos all over… Maybe I get carried away with my imagination
I like cold water corals that live in deeper water and, unlike their tropical friends, grow happily in the dark as they don’t need sunlight.
I also like fire corals, which have a wicked sting because they’re not proper stony corals but are more closely related to jellyfish and which are thought to be more robust than their stony friends so they can survive and help the reef when things like climate change make life difficult.
