That would depend on the type of story. I love Selkies, mythical creatures who have a human and a seal shape, but mostly live as seals. I like them very much because you don’t have to anthropomorphise animals about whom we know so little but can take a human to live underwater. I have written a few selfie stories before. I have also mentioned behaviours of marine animals in a novel I have been writing, where my main character fantasises about taking revenge on her abusive partner, and dreams to be a vomiting fulmar, a gut expelling sea cucumber or an externally digesting starfish…. Do you write yourself?
